~Betty Kirtz shared these words at Muncie Habitat’s 2005 Dream Builder breakfast.

My name is Betty Kirtz, and I am so grateful for becoming a homeowner with Habitat for Humanity for many reasons.  The main reason is that I will finally have a home for my family that we can call our own.  We won’t have to continue moving from apartment, to apartment, to apartment.  When I was growing up, I had the wonderful experience of living in a home, and it has always been my dream to provide the same for my children.

I was so excited when I found I had been selected to be a Habitat homeowner.  And then I was told my house was going to be built in eight days! I could hardly believe it!  A local church congregation will do an eight-day Blitz Build, and they will be building my home!  I’m counting the days until my house is started.  Then, only eight days later I will finally realize my dream of having my very own home.

The lot my new house will be built on is very special to me because my parents’ house used to be there.  Sadly, my parents are no longer living.  A little over a year ago a house fire took my mother’s life and destroyed the home where I was raised.  I know my parents would be so happy to know that their daughter and grandchildren will now be living on the very land that they worked so hard to get.  My parents would be so proud – I just wish they were here to see this!

All I can say is thank you to everyone in this generous community for giving me and all Habitat Partner Families a hand up in life, and for truly making our dreams come true!
