Homeownership as a Form of Justice

From the Desk of Lindsey Arthur, Muncie Habitat CEO-Habitat for Humanity envisions a world where EVERYONE has a decent place to live. EVERYone includes ALL. Historic redlining, segregation, and systemic racism are in direct conflict to what we stand for as an organization.

Habitat for Humanity offers affordable homeownership as a form of justice.  Every home built, every dollar raised, and every volunteer hour spent — they ALL represent justice, and they ALL combine to make this world a better place to live.

You can learn about these historic housing policies that have caused so much damage to today’s minority communities by watching this video below: “Segregated by Design.” It examines the forgotten history of how our federal, state and local governments unconstitutionally segregated every major metropolitan area in America through law and policy.

Additionally if you would like to view the maps of Indiana towns from 1937 and see their redlining history you can use this link HERE.
