Muncie Habitat for Humanity has a team of employees who strive to serve their community boldly with their unique skills and diverse backgrounds. Kristin joined the Muncie Habitat team two years ago, initially working in a split role doing Resource Development for our ReStore and acting as the Assistant Volunteer Coordinator, before eventually moving fully into the role of Volunteer Coordinator. “I am responsible for all things volunteer,” Kristin explained. “My typical week consists of recruiting new volunteers and volunteer groups, coordinating with our construction department to determine volunteer needs, scheduling and planning volunteer days, visiting with our volunteers, working with ReStore managers to assess ReStore volunteer needs and spending days at our construction site alongside our volunteers taking care of everything from morning sign-in to lunch and volunteer supplies.”

Kristin originally connected with Muncie Habitat because it aligned with her personal beliefs and ideals. These shared interests continue to be inspirational for her. “My favorite part of my job is witnessing the transformation in our volunteers, our Partner Families and in the community we serve,” she explained.  “Seeing the long-term effect of our work in our community is inspirational. Even on a day-to-day basis, there is so much transformation. It is such a joy to watch the transformation of a volunteer beginning their day afraid of power tools and ending their day with confidence and excitement at their newly-learned skillset.”

Muncie Habitat volunteers are key to our mission, and Kristin makes it a priority to show each of them how much they mean to the organization. “I make every effort to ensure each volunteer feels appreciated and celebrated,” she said. “I like to mail out cards for our volunteers’ birthdays and on holidays. I enjoy taking inventory of what our regular volunteers’ favorite snacks and drinks are to have them available on site and for special occasions. It is such an honor to get to know the folks who commit themselves to our mission, whether they spend a day with us or years with us. I hope all of our volunteers can feel just how appreciated they are!”

At the end of the day, Kristin is thankful to be able to share her time and talents with Muncie Habitat and the families we serve. “It is important to me on a personal level to utilize my knowledge and skills to make a difference in our community,” she said. “I love being a part of the collaborative efforts of our volunteers, everyone at our organization, partner organizations, community members and Partner Families – all working together to build homes, communities and hope.”
