Rosebud Coffee Energizes 8twelve Area

A new coffee shop has opened through a collaboration with several partners in the 8twelve Coalition area!  The Coalition is a neighborhood revitalization partnership convened by Muncie Habitat for Humanity. Rosebud Coffee House, located at 1805 S. Hoyt Ave., has brought a boost of energy to Muncie’s south side.

Neighborhood residents identified the desire and need for places to gather and access to food during several survey and listening sessions over the last few years.  Responding the residents gifts, dreams, and concerns is the core of the work done in the 8twelve Coalition.  The coffee shop is an answer to residents while also drawing visitors from other areas of town.

Tiara Hicks, the entrepreneur behind this new business, is using a Muncie Industrial Revolving Loan Fund (MIRLF) loan to make her dream possible. Hicks has spent years in the hospitality industry; as a twelve-year-old, she began working in a diner in Oakville, IN, where she continued to work through high-school. Tiara has a Bachelor’s in Management and a Master’s in Business Administration, focusing on Human Resources from Indiana Wesleyan University. After her education, Tiara continued her work in the hospitality industry. Now, with over 20 years in the hospitality industry, working for a variety of large franchises in multiple capacities, Tiara can achieve a life-long dream of owning her own business.

“It’s exciting to be able to develop a concept from the ground up, utilizing my experience, and hopefully having an impact on the surrounding community.”

The name Rosebud originated from her Grandpa. Hicks states, “He instilled the ‘value’ of hospitality into all of us. My Grandpa always had an open door and a cup of coffee for anybody.”

Hicks has been more than grateful for the support she has found within the Muncie community. She credits much of her success to Ted Baker of the Innovation Connector, Scott Underwood of Indiana Small Business Development Center, Jena Ashby of Habitat for Humanity, Bryan Ayars of Open Door Health Services, and the 8twelve Coalition.
